A Gary Post-Tribune columnist is a little testy overy Mitch Daniels' "I would never, ever in a million, zillion years run for president even if my life depended on it, unless I change my mind" mixed signals:
I tell you, Mitch, every time someone asks you whether you are going to run for president, you leave the door cracked just a little bit wider.
[. . .]
I don't know, Mitch, but when I read between the lines, I get the feeling that you want to be courted.
I've had that feeling, too. Every time he speaks, his denial of an intent to run sounds less convincing. I don't know if he's gradually talking himself into running or just teasing us or what, but the effect is fort of irritating. I sometimes wish he'd just say yes or no definitively and positively, but I also realize that a politician's "no" is rescindable right up to the last possible second.
