Happy Veterans Day. Would it be unlibertarian of me to wish the federal government would require that veterans get the day off with triple pay? Oh, well. Just send me money, and I'll toast you at the local VFW. Wait, I forgot. I don't belong. This article tries to make it sound like veterans organizations today are having more trouble than they once did in getting recruits. But if you look at the numbers, you see that vets are joining in about the same proportions they always did. The problem, now as then, is getting young veterans to join. Hanging out with other former soldiers drinking cheap booze (one of the chief attractions of veterans organizations, no matter what anybody says) and swapping war stories is a pastime for old men, not young ones. Did I tell you the one about how I fought to protect your way of life? You're welcome, I'm sure.
