But seriously ...

Sen. Chuck Schumer is typical of most Democrats' delusions about spending and the debt:

“And the overall goal: again, cutting waste, using a smart short scalpel but not a meat axe,” he said. “Senate Democrats and the president are on the same page and I think we're moving in that direction.”

A scalpel? Really? The deficit is over $1 trillion a year, and people like Schumer call proposals to cut it -- not the budget, the deficit -- 2 percent "extreme" and we're talking scalpel? Never mind the meat axe; it's time for the chainsaw.

But a lot of Republicans aren't really serious, either. Paul Ryan is one of the few who treat the issue with the urgency it deserves.
