Former Democratic Indiana House Speaker John Gregg has finally filed his official paperwork to run for governor. He correctly identifies the loss of manufacturing jobs as a top concern, but if he can't come up with any solution better than this, perhaps he should move on the some other issue:
Gregg said he would attempt to lure wind-turbine manufacturers to the state as part of his strategy to revitalize the state's crumbling manufacturing base.
[. . .]
Tools for luring wind-turbine component manufacturers to Indiana could include tax credits and speeding approval of state permits, he said.
Those stupid turbines have been around for years, and if they could make it without heavy government subsidies, they would have done so already. Furthermore, they're never going to provide more than a tiny fraction of the nation's energy needs. When taxpayers finally realize what a ripoff wind power is, there will be a massive rejection of this phony "look to the future" technology. We just can't afford to keep spending so much money for so little return.
When that happens, we're going to be stuck with nothing to show for it but a bunch of ugly towers that look like they belong in a sci-fi movie about another planet -- like the 125 that a Chicago company wants to put on a wind farm in Tipton County.
