The Komets have moved Olivier Legault to the non-roster spot so they retain his rights, and they have waived Maksim Shirokov. Shirokov will go through the IHL waiver draft at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Komets General Manager David Franke informed the players this morning.
As for Legault, Franke said, ``We will retain his rights for the rest of the year and into the summer and we have explained to him that we still want him to be part of our team next year and he definitely wants to play here again next year. We just explained it was a numbers situation.''
Franke said Legault informed him he will remain in Fort Wayne and continue to be a part of the team off the ice.
Shirokov is on the 21-day injured reserve list with a deep bruise on his foot after being hit with a shot two weeks ago. That means he would not be eligible to come off until April 25 if he is selected in the draft. Even if he is not selected in the draft, the Komets lose his rights.
Playoff dates have also been announced and are the same dates that I listed as tentative last night.
Game 1: Friday, April 18 in Fort Wayne, 8 p.m.
Game 2: Saturday, April 19 in Muskegon, 7:30 p.m.
Game 3: Sunday, April 20 in Fort Wayne, 6 p.m.
Game 4: Wednesday, April 23 in Muskegon, 7:30 p.m.
Game 5: Friday, April 25 in Fort Wayne, 8 p.m.
Game 6: Saturday, April 26 in Muskegon, 7:30 p.m.
Game 7: Tuesday, April 29 in Fort Wayne, 7:30 p.m.
The Komets have also added an amateur defenseman to their playoff roster, Ken Dufresne, who is 6-0, 190 pounds. He played for the TerreBonne Cobras of the Quebec Junior AAA League and led his team's blueliners in scoring. He'll arrive in town tonight, have a physical tomorrow and practice on Wednesday.
