Sims: Look for NHL on Dec. 1

Komets coach Al Sims was on the BS Sports Report today and said he's heard the NHL will start up again on Dec. 1 and play a 66-game schedule. Sims did not name his sources, but I'd say he's fairly well connected.

Bob Ferguson interview

It's not going to post on this format but here's the link: http://youtu.be/fwWwWL_pwSk

He's Anaheim's assistant GM and he talks a lot about the kids the Ducks have sent to Fort Wayne. He also talks about what could happen if the NHL lockout ends and how it could affect the Komets.

Wednesday highlights

From Vinnie Lopes. Check out the passing on the Komets' goal to tie the game from Josh Brittain.

Who's playing well right now?

Pretty much everybody, but there have been a few players who have stood out to me.

Stephon Thorne was the No. 1 star today, and he played well, but no one on the entire team is playing better than J.M. Rizk right  now. He was all over the ice today and his defensive game might have been better than his offensive game with a goal and an assist. He's really on a tear, which is amazing considering he's always going against the opponents' No. 1 center.

WANE's highlights from Wednesday

Sims on playing early

``I think once it starts, I thought it was a 7:30 p.m. game. I really had no idea until I looked up at the clock and saw it was Noon. You don’t really realize it, you just get into it and it’s just another game. It’s a practice time so guys are used to skating at this time and it’s not too bad.''

Also, turns out Matt Kennedy didn't get punched in the head as it appeared. He got nailed with a shot in front of the net. He's OK.

Komets win 4-2

Though they trailed 2-1 in the third period. Goals by Rizk, Thorne, Brittain and Smith. All the details are on the live blog link. We're heading home ASAP so I can get a flat tire fixed before closing time. We'll have a story up later tonight.

Heading to Toledo

Don't forget we're going to live blog throughout the game. We're going to be using a different format than usual. I'll post the details when we get there.

CD of Friday's game is unlikely

The Komets have said that it is very unlikely they'll be able to produce a CD of Friday's game when Bob Chase works with Mike Emrick. They'd have to get permission from NBC, WOWO, Emrick, etc. Emrick had to get permission from NBC to go this far with it.

The Komets are encouraging fans to bring their radios, phones or whatever devices they choose to listen along with the game.

First Stanford poll of the season

The all-new, hopefully easier to read and understand poll of ECHL teams from Joe Stanford.
