DeAngelis ends short, distinguished career

DeAngelis retires

The Komets announced Friday that defenseman Frankie DeAngelis has decided to retire from the game of hockey.

DeAngelis announced his retirement and notified Komet management that he will take employment back home outside of hockey.  "Frankie was a great Komet and even a greater person," Komet general manager David Franke said.

No news on Frankie today

David Franke has not heard from him yet and doesn't expect to until later tonight at the earliest.

As for Frankie, he's not talking right now.

I'll let you know as soon as I know.

Also be on Billy Elvis show on Saturday from 12-2 p.m. at Men's Expo. I promise not to be late this time.

Notes

* Komets General Manager David Franke told me today he has put a Thursday deadline on Frankie DeAngelis to make a decision about next season. If DeAngelis decides he isn't coming back?

We're working on a couple of other guys,'' Franke said. ``I'm just kind of holding off here to see what Frankie does tomorrow. I know that there's going to be some players available through Anaheim and Norfolk. There will also be other teams out there to place players because not everybody has an ECHL affiliate.

Don't worry

There will be some Komets news coming later.

Thank you!

Pretty heady company

WANE highlights from video signing

WANE's Tom Mele highlights

New book coming out

Tom Mele has signed

Former Komet Tom Mele has signed in Alaska after scoring 18 points in 52 games last year. He also had five points in 17 playoff games.

The Aces are coached by former Komet Rob Murray. Anybody remember him as a player? He was here in 87-88.

So what do y ou think?

Is the deal with Anaheim a good one or not? I know it's tough to tell without knowing who the bodies coming this way will be, but what's your gut reaction?

Myself, I was shocked that the Frankes flipped on this one to get an affiliation. Then I saw the names of the team management involved and it made some sense. I think both sides are going to be feeling their way through this one this season.

Puska on Pucks

Has an interview with former Komets assistant coach Gary Graham as he gets ready to lead the SPHL's Pensacola Ice Flyers. Also some of the bloggers have pitched in on their favorite old-time hockey barns.
