Tailing the Komets

Komets win in overtime!

They trailed at Quad City 2-0 until halfway into the second period when Stephon Thorne scored. J.M. Rizk scored on a rebound halfway into the third period to force overtime and then Artem Podshendyalov scored at 3:02 of overtime off a Chris Auger rebound to win it. Nick Boucher made 45 saves. Komets were being out-shot 9-1 to start the third period and then dominated 18-10 the rest of the way.

It's the second time in five road games the Komets have rallied to win from a 2-0 deficitAND the second time in four games that they scored at 3:02 of overtime to win.

Could fighting be coming to an end?

Inside The Zone for Feb. 27

Chaulk cleared to play

He has passed all his concussion tests, and he'll be in the lineup Tuesday in Quad City.

Brett Smith is going on the 14-day IR with a separated shoulder.

Dustin Molle is going to sit one more week and should play starting next week.

Jesse Bennefield will miss Tuesday's game in Quad City as he awaits the birth of his first child, but could play Wednesday at home.

David Starenky is OK and was at practice today, as was Artem Podshendyalov.

IceMen win again

Nicklas Lindberg scores in overtime to give Evansville a 2-1 win over Dayton. IceMen have won 10 in a row overall and are 9-1 against the Gems this season.

Evansville is seven points up on Fort Wayne with 13 games each remaining.

Komets lose 3-0

Todd Robinson scored a power-play goal in the third and then Matt Pierce scored an empty-netter. Nick Boucher made 25 saves and Pier-Olivier Pelletier 33 for the IceMen who lead the Komets for first place by five points now and also play Dayton tomorrow.

Komets easily had twice as many scoring chances, but never could put one in.

IceMen lead 1-0 after two

Truthfully, this game should be about 4- or 5-0 in the Komets' favor. Fort Wayne had six power plays in the second period, and the Komets had amazing scoring chances but failed to cash on several from right in front of the Evansville goal.

The IceMen goal was a gift, too. From along the sidewall, Artem Podshendyalov threw a no-look backhand directly into the slot where Evansville's John Ronan buried it. Todd Robinson hasn't thrown a pass that good all year. Nick Boucher didn't even have a chance to flinch.

No score after one

Shots were 14-12 in favor of the IceMen. I've seen both Jamie Milam and David Starenky playing forward. Lines early on were Thomas, Mele and Milam; Rizk, Schrock and Thorne; Chaumont, Auger and Starenky. Podshendyalov has skated sparingly, but seemed to get more ice time later in the period. Basically, they've been going with Henley and Bryant Molle, and DeAngelis and Lovell as the only defensemen. I'd guess Milam will play both forward and defenseman.

Komets are very short-handed tonight

Brett Smith is not on the trip tonight, and there are some other injured players who normally would not play who are going to suit up and try to go. Komets may have as few as 13 skaters.  But Nick is fired up. Who knows?

Won't get any sympathy from the IceMen. They've been doing this for two months.
