Notes from practice

[gallery]* Nick Boucher said he felt pretty good today after having to miss last Satudray's game with back spasms. These are also pictures of Nick's new mask. The three-headed dog on the front is Cerberus, the guard dog of Hades. On the back of his helmet, he has the words, "Get in the way," along with a horseshoe and a Komets logo. * Brad MacMillan is definitely out this weekend after getting his left pinky sliced open last week. It's actually healing pretty well.

Drouin, Boucher honored

P.C. Drouin was named the IHL's Player of the Week and Nick Boucher the goaltender of the week this afternoon.

Ceremonial puck drop

Before tonight's game, Komets' great Len Thornson and Applebees Chief Operations Officer Ron Long made the ceremonial puck drop along with Fort Wayne area director Kevin Bennett and Gretchen and Dean Spires of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In Thornson's honor, Applebees made a $60,000 donation to Make-A-Wish.

Thornson and Long have been talking for a few months regarding the situation with Thornson's memorabilia and have developed a friendship.

MacMillan out 1-2 weeks

Komets General Manager David Franke said this evening that forward Brad MacMillan will be out 1-to-2 weeks after getting his hand slashed open by a skate Friday night in Muskegon. No tendons were severed in the incident.

Franke also said it looks like forward Sean O'Connor is going to try to play tonight after getting slashed behind the knee Friday night in Muskegon by Lumerbacks center Todd Robinson. Franke said the Komets have asked IHL VP of Hockey Operations Brad Jones to review the play.

Komets cap off road trip with win

It's already been a great week for the Fort Wayne Komets, and there's still one game to go.
The Komets won 3-1 at Muskegon on Friday night to take over first place in the International Hockey League, going from fourth to first with wins in three straight road games.

Komets win again

The Fort Wayne Komets have reached their goal for the week the hard way.

At the start of the week, the Komets wanted a chance to play Muskegon tonight for first place in the International Hockey League, but first, they had to win two road games to get there. The Komets beat Port Huron 3-2 on Tuesday night and came back to win 4-3 at Flint on Thursday night to set up the showdown. The win moves them into a first-place tie with Muskegon with 25 points. Port Huron is third with 24 and Kalamazoo is fourth with 22.
