Tailing the Komets

Fleming left off all-rookie team

The ECHL on Wednesday announced its All-Rookie Team for 2013-14 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.

A rookie is defined as a player who has played in less than 25 professional games prior to the start of the current season.

Couple notes

Andrey Makarov was here to pick up his stuff and head back to Rochester; Jace Coyle will have an MRI this week on his leg to see how bad it is.

Toledo leads early

On this goal by C.J. Chartrain after the mother of all rebounds :22 seconds after the opening faceoff.

New defenseman

I'm surprised the ECHL lets the Komets continue to pull these roster shenanigans at gametime. Very unprofessional.

Anyway, rookie defenseman Steven Shamanski has been signed out of Providence where he had 16 points in 39 game and 24 penalty minutes.

It's also true that the Komets released Nathan Martine by phone, which is just a crock.

Roster moves

The Komets have placed Mitch Bruijsten and Nathan Martine on waivers and activated Sy Nutkevitch and Jace Coyle from reserve. They have played Christian Ouellet and Kenton Miller on reserve.

Crushing news

Long-time Komets fan and frequent blogger Bob Brown passed away last night. Tonight's game won't be even close to seeming normal without he and his wife Kathleen there. He was 51.

Bob always had a handshake for everyone. Makes me upset that I didn't take the chance to see him at Wednesday's game. He was also heavily involved with the Northern Indiana Convertible Club.

Please pray for Kathleen and his family.

Rest in peace, my friend. You will be greatly missed, and we'll all take care of Kathleen.

It's 1-1 after one

On this goal by Maxim Shalunov in the final minute over Jason Dale and Ben Meisner. Shots 15-11 Walleye so far.

Year's best lineup?

Jason Dale is playing and centering Matt Carter and Christian Ouellet on the third line. The Komets may need the extra offense because Hannu Toivonen is starting in goal for the Walleye and he made 49 saves in his last outing against the Komets.

Ben Meisner is starting in nets again for the Komets.
