From a Komets press release:
Two new goalies will be dressed tonight, but the Komets have just submitted the contracts to the league so they can't say who they are yet. Chris Auger and Kaleigh Schrock will also be playing.
You can watch them here. Includes a beautiful goal from Mike Embach.
Komets starter Ben Meisner had to leave the game with what appeared to be an illness halfway through the second period. With the play at the other end, Meisner fell to the ice twice face-first as he appeared to have no equalibrium. Former IPFW player Larkin Saalfrank, who I believe hasn't played in a game since November, is in goal. So far, the Komets have dominated play, keeping the action in the Orlando end. Saalfrank has faced only two shots in about five minutes of play, while the Komets are peppering Orlando goaltender Cody Reichard.
It's 3-3 early in the second period. Komets led 3-2 after one, but neither goaltender seems able to handle and sometimes see the puck tonight.
Shawn Szydlowski scored the Komets' second goal on a deflection of a Jordon Southorn shot.
Then Mike Embach scored late in the first period.
Larkin Saalfrank is the emergency back-up tonight since Andrey Makarov has been recalled to Rochester of the AHL. Rochester has a game Thursday.
I always wondered what prevents opponents from just running the goaltennder in a situation like this.
Jordon Southorn is back, but no Kaleigh Schrock, Chris Auger, Dean Ouellet, Jason Dale or Matt Carter tonight. Schrock and Auger and day-to-day. Carter and Dale have a pretty good chance of returning this season, Dean Ouellet is a little more iffy.
As some of you may know, Manchester football coach Shannon Griffith is a big fan of the Komets and regularly posts here as sgriffith. His son is an IU football player and was involved in a swimming accident on Monday in Florida. There are more details in this story. Please pray for Issac and his family.
Fort Wayne currently holds the eighth and final playoff spot by virtue of having more non-shootout wins than Florida.
A few years ago, we ran a series of stories about this time each season on Icy's NCAA picks. He always seemed to go with orange or birds. Here's this year's picks.
