I served on the Big Brothers Big Sisters board for six years, so I know what great work the local agency does. This is much deserved:
The staff, board, “Bigs” and “Littles” at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana have cause for great celebration. In June at the organization's national convention, the local agency was named the 2006 Agency of the Year among 440 across the country and internationally. It serves more than 1,100 children in 12 counties.
There are always kids waiting for matches. If you've got a little bit of mentor in you, give it a thought.

Our Big Brothers/Big Sisters agency is really a wonderful organization. As you say, this is a very well deserved honor for the board, staff and volunteers - and especially (IMHO) their Executive Director, Josette Rider. Yes, highly successful organizations are a team effort, etc., but Josette has been the leader and much of the credit should be laid at her feet.
If you have never been a "Big," you should check it out. I think that the adult volunteers get at least as much from the relationship as the kids do. BBBSNEI has a variety of types of programs if you are concerned about time commitments. And if you are concerned that you won't know what to do with a kid, they have lots of ideas on that account as well. Call them (260-456-1600) or check out their website today.
(Full disclosure: I used to be on the board and have been a Big Sister.)
