Opening Arguments

Fantasyland

Nerds of America, come out Mom's basement and unite! A frightened world needs you!

Cincinnati police have a new ally in their fight against crime, whether they want it or not.

He calls himself Shadowhare, and he wears a mask and a cape to conceal his true identity. He's Cincinnati's own version of a superhero fighting crime and injustice where he finds it.

[. . .]

Shadowhare is not alone in his quest to fight crime. He heads up a group of men -- and one woman -- called the "Allegiance of Heroes." The members communicate with each other in online forums. Among the members are Aclyptico in Pennsylvania, Wall Creeper in Colorado and Master Legend in Florida.

"I've even teamed up with Mr. Extreme in California -- San Diego -- and we were trying to track down a rapist," said Shadowhare.

Comic fantasy meets mental illness, I suspect. The minute we laugh too hard at them, one of them will get seriously hurt or do something tragically stupid.

The new "Star Trek" movie comes out next week. It's fiction, OK?

I dunno, Leo...this guy "might" be onto something...
Some cities NEED something (or someone) to aid the police THESE days.

I mean HOW MUCH is he COSTING the taxpayers?
HOW MUCH of the city's FUNDS are going to front this "champion of justice", anyway?

HOW MUCH is he "charging" for his "services"?
(and can he spend some quality time in MY neighborhood...WITH his pals? I'll buy lunch!)
Seriously, though...

We often dismiss such pranks as being subjects of psychological evaluations worth a few footnotes in some medical journal, but if he truly IS making some kind of difference where he "roams", good for him!
I hope he gets a SIDEKICK!

(Now...let's see...I've already got that BATMAN logo on the hatch glass of my ALL BLACK CAR...hmm...maybe I can hit up the local ANG for a surplus jet turbine..gotta have me one of those...fiction notwithstanding)

Our Dan Cortez did a story about Nick Giant four or five years ago. It noted that he had started climbing things like refrigerators when he was a year old. He just seems to be a climbing nut, though. At least he's not carrying mace and looking for bad guys to nab, unless he's expanded his reprtoire.
