Outgoing EACS Superintendent Kay Novotny has recommending closing Harding High school and putting those students in New Haven High School for the sensible reason that "it is an aging building in a township that needs only one high school." The suggestion has drawn the ire of some constituents, mostly Harding parents:
No active discussion has been had about whether closing Harding is even an option, and many in the community feel they have been left in the dark because of that.
“I think first of all they need to take the closing of Harding off the table,” said Jimella Harris, a Harding parent. From there, community members say they are willing to do what it takes to keep their school open.
“We're standing for maintaining Harding High School,” said Condra Ridley, an EACS parent. “If everybody does a little piece, we ought to be able to work this out.

Having recently attended an Indiana State School Music Association competition at Harding, it didn't appear to be an "aging" facility (but I'm no structural engineer, and it may be energy inefficient). In fact, I was impressed by its look of being a well-maintained and spacious facility. If the school were to be closed, it would we seem a waste to decommision or demolish the building.
If we had vouchers, that would allow us to send our children to whatever school we desired, there would be a place for such a good building. We would have better educated students and could assure a higher moral outcome if it were a church affilated school.
