Hey, remember when Leo would criticize Mark "State Park" Souder for funneling federal dollars towards the Ft. Wayne area? Me either.
As a reminder...
When it comes to gleaning "money for NE Indiana" in general (and our VETERANS in particular), it would be wise to recall that VETERANS PENSIONS has been something the FEDERAL government has had in place (and provided for) for a VERY long time.
THAT never came down to state level nor local municipalities.
Here's the *411* lest we forget:
At least THIS is not a useless airport in PA with your name on the front gate, hmm?
;)
Once again, it merely requires a quick check of the archives to demonstrate the silliness of your tiresome insults. From Jan. 16, 1995:
"Fourth District Rep. Mark Souder is featured in the current Newsweek magazine, displaying conflicting emotions about the possibility of eliminating funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. Souder is a believer in the principles espoused by House Speaker Newt Gingrich, principles that call for drastically cutting federal spending. But the NEA, one of Gingrich's targets, provides a $36,000 grant for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, an organization of which Mr. Souder is very fond.
[. . .]
"But something for Mr. Souder to consider: Two of the most alluring arguments for the NEA he'll hear are that a) the money is peanuts, and b) most of it is for very good things such as the Philharmonic and not much at all for controversial things such as the Mapplethorpe exhibit.
"The 'peanuts' argument cuts both ways, however. Most NEA funding to institutions represents only a fraction of those institutions' budgets, as with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. If the orchestra is that important to us, can't we find that $36,000 in the Fort Wayne area? Why should folks in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Walla Walla, Wash. (federal money comes from everywhere) help us with our orchestra? Why should we help fund their ballet or opera?
"It's not about money anyway - or, at least, not mostly about money. It's about what the federal government should and should not be involved in. If we are serious about cutting back federal spending, that will mean cutting programs that touch every American."
Oh, enough. You are too repetitive to be fun anymore, so goodbye. Soil somebody else's sandbox for awhile.
As one who has called-out Souder many, many times in the last 5 years, I have to disagree with IOKIVAR's criticism of Leo. Just what have you been reading from Leo??? I had no desire to see Mark go as he did - but, I am happy with the result!!
"Taking care of his own" is exactly what Byrd did so well. Like it or not, bringing back the pork is the name of the game. And until the game changes, we should be so lucky as to have someone like him in our corner.
