I'm all for commerce, but don't we have enough places to shop in Fort Wayne, at least in that part of town?
RCI Development LLC plans to build a 100,000-square-foot shopping center just west of Glenbrook Commons and Glenbrook Square, according to a local developer's Web site.
A preliminary design of the shopping center shows six stores in the shopping center, including a 45,900-square-foot anchor store. The shopping center called The Pie would occupy the triangular site between Lima Road, Wells Street and Fernhill Avenue. The drawing includes three sites that could be sold for further development.
If we get some new stores that are truly unique, fine. Otherwise, we're just moving the shopping dollars around. Oh, but put a Starbucks on Bluffton Road for me.

With the fact that Glenbrook Commons is looking much the "ghost town" these days (they closed my Chinese buffet), I'm kind of surprised that they didn't just move NEW tenants into THAT area, instead of "the pie".
Then again, I live on the SOUTH side of this "burg", where any REAL retail shopping is limited to basically K-Mart and (thankfully now) Menards.
The list of retail CLOSURES down here (over the years) far exceeds even the new additions up north, and how is that supposed to embrace a sense of equal and fair treatment, considering that the south side has the greatest population density (no jokes here, folks) and ergo, the highest amount of "disposable income" (even drug dealers have to SPEND money sometime), but not many places to spend it?
I'm all for friendly competition in retail, but get REAL....how much MORE shopping can honestly fit into that area? Isn't this like trying to squeeze 10 pounds of (something) into a 5 pound bag?
At LEAST open up a few DUNKIN DONUTS down here, so we can get some more POLICE into the area...(love those eclairs)!!!
;)
