Bah, humbug. Scientists in Britain have done a study showing that age 52 is when adults become "more grumpy than happy":
It is then that both men and women begin to suffer a sharp decline in their sense of humour and get increasingly grumpy, according to scientists at the University of Glamorgan.
The study also backed the long held belief . . . that older men are grumpier than women

Good grief. I've been grumpy for a long time, and I'm not even close to 50. Guess I'm a precocious curmudgeon.

I believe we "seem" grumpier when we age is because we (us 50+ers) like to think about the autumn of our lives as being a bit more laid back (and physical limitations can help that along...we ain't 25 anymore)...

I think the real reason is that when we are young, we are taught to trust police, teachers and adults. We are told they are wiser than we are. That they have our best interest at heart. As we age we find that most of all this is a load of crap.
I love my parents, but they like their parents did not look into what the government was actually doing. They were scammed and voted based on promises, not results. This is why so many incumbents get re elected. Now because they trusted elected representatives, we have huge deficits, government intrusion into everything because the thought is they can fix anything and know everything.
Yes, at ~ age 50, we finally wake up and begin to smell what we always thought was a rose, but now turns out to be horse crap. It is a rude awakening.
