Opening Arguments

Too much at once

Fort Wayne Community Schools wants to spend up to $1 billion on building remodeling. The City Council proposes to ban smoking in all public places. Whatever we might think of either proposal, we realize they are both pretty big deals. Is it too much to ask that school and city officials do a little coordinating so that big public hearings on the two issues aren't held on the same night?

Leo...it's all part of "their" plan...

...To obfuscate!

I thought the same thing yesterday. Just another sign of the atrocious planning by city leaders...

Leo,
The timing is designed so people do not go. Most of the Yellow ribbon task force meetings were in the middle of the day. Last night was great, all the news was about the smoking ordinance and the billion dollar neutron bond got little time.

I don't see how anyone can disagree with you on this one. When providing a public forum, don't make me or anyone else miss one opportunity in order to attend the other.

That's unquestionably poor management on someone's part, and now that you've highlighted the mistake, it should not happen again.

The public's convenience is far more important than the convenience of any council member serving the area.

I was wondering that too why the meetings were held in the middle of the day. I think Jon is right, done on purpose so people can't attend. Then they will say well people didn't show up and complain so they must think it is ok! It won't matter what we say, they are going to do what they want. I am all for making sure the schools are well maintained but they need to find some costs to cut and some different ways to pay for this.
