Has anyone considered the negative economic-development impact of this?
The Allegiant Air trifecta is complete. Fort Wayne gamblers can now fly directly to Sin City.
Allegiant today was expected to announce nonstop service from Fort Wayne International Airport to Las Vegas beginning March 2.
This will make it far too easy for Hoosiers to lose their gambling money in Nevada instead of being chumps at our own casinos.

Maybe not. We are notoriously frugal, and gambling at home is still a bargain.
There is a percentage of folks who enjoy going to Las Vegas regardless of the cost, and they will go either way.
Besides, Las Vegas service makes connections to Western airports easier to make, and that should be a boost.
If Ft Wayne was not so conservative, they could make money from these gamblers right here by putting some riverboats out on the water. It's stupid, they allow bingo and scratch offs but not Cherry Masters or casinos. What's the difference-gambling is gambling.
That's the funny part. Stupid or not, around here gambling is not always Gambling.
Fort Wayne is not really "so conservative," but we are picky when it comes to sorting out what is permissible and what is over the line.
I agree that we are stuck on the fence as we try to figure out on a case by case basis what gambling to permit and what to reject. Logical or not, we are likely to try to write into law some fairly superficial cosmetic tests to decide what should be lawful. But we are hardly unusual in that way.
There's plenty of precedent for legal limits on gambling and other "sins" in the history of American governance. One familiar trait of our country's patchwork of local law is that the community standard on this or that subject doesn't make logical sense, but seems to satisfy the community understanding of moral sense.
I don't think Fort Wayne folks are going to favor the full range of gambling games in the foreseeable future, though I have no prejudice about the games of chance, either way.
We'll most likely struggle with lines drawn in artificial sand as we try to decide what is benign gambling and what is the degenerate sin of Gambling with a capital "G." We will always disagree on the details of our definitions, so compromise will be required to settle things for the good of all.
I think a lot of people, including those who prefer to partake of the more liberal offerings available among games of chance, will admit that we actually do a pretty decent job of sensing and litigating reasonable points where the lines should be drawn.
Sometimes it takes us a little time to get there, but even the Cherry Masters will probably find their legal niche in the region before long.
