Papa Bloomberg

Is there anything Mayor Bloomberg doesn't think should be controlled by the state?

The nanny state is going after moms.

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.

Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.

Stories always say Bloomberg is "a Republican turned Independent," when "Republican turned fascist nutjob" would be more appropriate. I know that label is thrown around a lot, but I don't know what else to call him. Since he seems to believe that anything is good for you can be ordered by the government, maybe "benevolent fascist" will do the trick.

Yes, I know there is a long and honorable tradition of encouraging rather than dictating preferred behavior -- that's a large part of the tax code, after all, and even conservative Republicans have been fans of sin taxes. But hiding baby formula so the stupid women will consider breast feeding? Boy, talk about the sexist oppression of a paternalistic power structure, heh, heh.

There may be some empirical evidence to show that breast fed babies are less likely to want a squirt gun later in their lives.

Bloomie is the quintessential Plutocrat. A $22 billion (with a B) short man with a Napoleonic complex and need to completely control all of his subjects...Want to bet he's laying the groundwork to buy another term? He bought the last one...
