Opening Arguments

Busy, busy, busy

Today's government tap dance comes from City Hall.

Indiana's NewsCenter voiceover:

Wednesday night, important road closure and flooding information was not relayed to the public, leaving some to question the Mayor's office.

This, after tax dollars were used to pay a consultant more than $70,000 just months ago to help with their social media efforts.

Cut to video of Mayor Tom Henry:

"First and foremost we have to make sure our citizens are safe,” says Mayor Henry. “So rather than spend a lot of time creating information on Facebook and so on. First and foremost we had to get out to the neighborhoods were severely flooded and make sure our citizens were safe.”

They can't do both? What is there, one guy who has to get out to the neighborhoods to make us safe, then go on Facebook to inform us of how safe we are, perhaps right before making coffee and bringing in the wood for the fireplace and right after he sharpens all the pencils? The city justified getting into social media in large part to better inform the citizens what city government is doing. To then use what the city is doing as an excuse not to do the social media, well, there's no other word but stupid.

More money well spent.

And so on.

Heh, once again, my comment from "Parlor Trick" applies here as well.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.
