Concealed carry

This may help some of you in deciding on a president. Clinton and MCain oppose outlawing concealed guns. Not Obama:

I am not in favor of concealed weapons," Obama said. "I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations."

That's just wrong. Most of the horrific incidents we read about are caused by people who shouldn't have had the guns under current laws, so more gun laws wouldn't seem to be the answer. Most of the time we hear about a law-abiding citizen with a gun, it's because one of them has stopped a horrific incident before it got any worse.

I think everyone pretty much already knows where I stand on this issue - just like american express, I never leave home without one, ... And, yes, this kind of data does help some of us make a decision, ...

Why not carry the weapon openly? That would seem to be a greater deterrent.

The argument for concealed carry is that the bad guys would never know who had a weapon and who didn't, thus they would always think twice before doing anything. If we carried openly, they would always know who was carrying and who wasn't, ...

So the gun industry has Hillary by the 'nads too.

Yes, definitely something to consider if you want a president who stands for real change.

If a gun can be concealed, it's a toy, not a gun. We really don't want people carrying those things; they're dangerous.

A well-made gun is going to have enough heft to it that you can't really conceal it very well. If the miscreant thinks twice, he knows that he only has to *look* and he can see whether someone is carrying a weapon.

But most lawbreakers don't think twice. Most of them don't think even once.

Down in Indianapolis, they used to buy more cop cars, and have the cops drive around with them when off duty. The theory was that it would discourage crime. Since you replace a cop car at 100,000 miles (which is actually about 300,000 miles, since they spend most of the time sitting still with the motor running), it doesn't add much to the cost to have 200 cars used for one shift, and replaced every 2 years, rather than 100 cars used for two shifts, and replaced every year.

If guns were carried openly, it'd serve as a reminder not to do anything stupid. If guns were carried openly, more people would carry them. Because miscreants don't need think, but they CAN be reminded.

I was simply pointing out the most used argument for concealed carry, I didn't mean to imply I was an opponent of open carry - I too believe open carry is the best of all possible worlds. And, if you really think a handgun that can be concealed is a toy, you haven't seen many handguns, ... I wouldn't want to be hit with one of the "toys" I carry, ...

Agreed with an OPEN-carry policy. All you need to do is show a LEO the permit amd that's that. At least the law-abaiding public would feel safer (I know I would).

Also, there are toys...and there are TOYS.
I have several BB pistols that look way too real (they would get the wrong person shot by an officer real fast)...and then there is my "pride and joy" - my RAM (real action marker) P99 CO2 paintball pistol (pistols like this are used by police departments that conduct "force-on-force" training).

You really don't want to be smacked with a .43 caliber paintball going at close to 290 FPS.

But being smacked by something a lot harder going a lot faster isn't really preferred.

BTW...I hear Obama doesn't really like CONCEALED-CARRY...
(wonder if that means HE prefers OPEN carry?)

NAHHHHH.

Open carry is fine, if everyone's doing it (such as in AZ). But if you're the only one doing it, guess who's the target when the goblins decide to start something?

Keep 'em guessing.
