Five with a bullet

While we're waiting for the Supreme Court to finalize arms-bearing as an individual right in that Chicago case, here's something fun: "5 ridiculous gun myths everyone believes (thanks to movies)." No. 1 on the list is, "Bullets explode everything," especially things that are flammable such as car gas tanks. The problem is that:

The manufacturers of automobiles and pressurized containers really don't like liability lawsuits. If their products could be turned into a fireball the size of a city block with nothing more than a sudden impact or puncture, every car accident would look like the Fourth of July, every pile-up would look like a Michael Bay movie.

[. . .]

What's so illogical about Hollywood's "handguns can explode a car" principle is that their bullets can't penetrate anything else. Here's John Cusack hiding behind a shelf of potato chips at a convenience store, safe from the dozens of bullets slamming into them.

One of my favorites (not on this list) is that every time the cops in the movies or on TV are going into an unknown place where they might encounter bad guys, they hold their guns in the hands of arms extended straight out, which would enable the bad guys to knock the guns out while hiding around the corner, instead of in the hands of arms that are held straight down the side, the sensible and safe way.

Amen to that...

I love that list and how wonderfully it was "splained" for all the neophytes in the group.

What I always hated was someone using a SILENCER on a REVOLVER...?!?
(yeah, that really works well...like, NOT at all)

No one walks with a handgun into an unsecured (and foreign) area with arms outstretched...but it IS "dramatic license", I suppose.
(and damn funny to boot).

And THAT is why the show MYTHBUSTERS is honest-to-God quality TV.
(watch the gun-related eps...you'll understand)
