Opening Arguments

Foxy Evan

The liberal blogs are annoyed as hell with former Sen. Evan Bayh. The Indiana Democrat said in a New York Times piece he was leaving the Senate because of "strident partisanship" and "unyielding ideology." He said he might, oh, teach or enter philanthropic work or otherwise do something "worthwhile for society." What did he really do? First, He became just another Congress-trained lobbyist peddling his influence, evening things out with lobbyist-turned-senator Dan Coats. Then he joined the loathed Fox Network.

Howard Kurtz said it's "good" for Fox News to hire "a prominent Democrat." But that's fundamentally at odds with what's transpiring here -- Fox News hires Democrats who can be reliably counted on to say unpleasant things about Democrats.

So, he's going for the money and beating up his own party? Isn't that a step away from "strident prtisanship" and "unyeielding ideology"? Just asking. Sounds pretty darned pragmatic to me.
