Funny peculiar

Further evidence that Los Angeles is a strange place. The Daily News recently dropped 10 cartoons and is now bringing back a few of them based on reader outrage:

I'm sorry we messed up your comics but grateful so many of you have let us know about it and told us what you want.

We're going to fix it as well as we can as fast as we can. "For Better or For Worse," "Funky Winkerbean" and "Mallard Fillmore" were at the top of your list, and we're going to get those back in the daily LA.COM section within a matter of days.

"For Better or For Worse," "Funky Winkerbean" and "Mallard Fillmore" are the ones readers in L.A. can't live without? Among the others cut, but apparently not that missed, were "Garfield," "Beetle Bailey" and "Hagar the Horrible." They have funny taste out there, and I don't mean funny ha-ha.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I've become much less of a comics reader. I used to check out my favorites every day, but now I go weeks without even looking at them. I think its one of those changes -- like not having music on the in background 24 hours a day -- that sneak up on us as we get older.

Indeed I pay less attention to the comics as I once did too, Dilbert and Housebroken are my favs in the NS, as well as Sally Forth, Bizarro and Real life Adventures. Never understood why you replaced the usually pretty good Foxtrot with that 9 Chickweed lane - a cartoon that seldom makes any sense. On balance the NS has abetter cartoon mix than the JG.

No offense but the NS and JG's comics pages are stinkers.

It's missing an old school serial strip like Judge Parker, Rex Morgan and/or, dare I say, Mary Worth.

Watch, the LA Daily News will bring back Judge Parker, which was one of the strips silently dismissed.

The N-S didn't have any choice about Foxtrot, the cartoonist quit doing a daily strip and went to Sunday only.

9 Chickweed Lane makes less and less sense by the week.

Also like Between Friends and the old retired couple, name escapes me right now.

Funky Winkerbean is becoming the most depressing comic strip ever.
