Gobbledygook 101

One of the downsides of this job is that I have to pay attention to excrutiatingly boring accounts of dull government bureaucrats policing their fussy rules, as in this story about hapless Jasper County, which committed the unforgiveable sin of not getting its paperwork in on time:

DLGF insisted, through a letter to County officials discussed at Monday's Jasper County Commissioner's meeting, an immediate submission of all county datasets, and a hearing to address Jasper County's non-compliance with data submission statutes and regulations.

Can't get enough of that sexy dataset non-compliance. There is also a lot of stuff about an "auditor's abstract," the "urgency of the matter" "rectifying the deficiency," "bad data conversion," "compliance with the annual adjustment rule," the "proper file format" and "property tax replacement credit distributions." This all apparently has something to do with taxpayers and what they owe and when they might have to pay it, but, for the life of me, I can't figure out what.

No wonder Hoosiers just throw their hands up, shortly before using them to grab protest signs and march on the governor's mansion.

From across the pond, I am minded that England and America are said to be "divided by a common language".

It seems that progress now means that America itself is divided by a common language!

And before you think I'm getting smug, the same thing happens over here as well . . . . . . .
