Good grief

For those of you who aren't content to know how popular Barack Obama is from month to month or even week to week, you can check out his Daily Presidential Approval Index:

Forty-two percent (42%) of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way Obama is performing his role as President-elect while 19% Strongly Disapprove. Those figures give Obama a +23 rating in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Approval Index, matching his highest rating yet (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administra... blocked::http://www.rasmussenrepor" href="http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/obama_approval_index_history" target="_self">see trends).

And he's not even president yet, so we're talking about approval of the way he's fixin' to get ready to become president. Those numbers are from yesterday, of course, so you might want to check back in today to see if hooray, he's up a point! or omigod, he's down 1! Those watching the stock market every hour so they can add or subtract weeks from their retirement date will be very comfortable with this sort of self-induced hysteria.

Gonna be a loooong four years. My friend says she is very impressed with me because I went through all five stages of grief -- denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance -- within minutes of the announcement that Obama had won; now I'm ready to get on with treating him like any other politician, which is to say, condescendingly. She is still stuck in the "Did the country really do this" stage of denial.
