So Dr. John Crawford has announced he will seek a return to his at-large City Council seat rather than a shot at the mayor's office. Despite my differences with him on some of his council actions (such as the smoking ban and Harrison Square vote), I think his presence in the race will be a good thing. He really is conservative on most issues, and there can't be too many voices for fiscal restraint in next year's election.

But there may be a dilemma for Republicans. Dr. Crawford finished fourth, with Liz Brown narrowly winning an at-large seat. Marty Bender and John Shoaff still have the name recognition to do as well as they did last time (assuming nobody more well-known enters the race). So the question is: Would Crawford be a better conservative council member than Brown? She has been a real bright spot on the council for those of us concerned about k
