History lesson

The Muncie Star Press says Mike Pence is a nice conservative lad who should be careful about reaching beyond his grasp:

Could Pence be a strong candidate? We think it's possible, but history is not on his side.

Many have run for president while serving in the House, but the chances of winning are not good.

James A. Garfield is the only sitting member of the House of Representatives to be elected president. He served as president in 1881 until dying from a gunshot wound at the hand of an assassin.

We must learn from history -- that is such excellent advice. This country, for example, has never elected an African-American to the presidency, which is why it would be foolish for Barack Obama to think . . .

. . .Oh, say, wait a sec. . . .

His track record is more important than his current position. He was part of the House majority that did not protest with any vigor, did not do anything to prevent, and frequently helped Bush the Younger drive the country into a ditch.

A successful conservative candidate will, in my opinion, have to be distant from that chapter of the country's history.

Considering what Obama is trying to do to the country, you can still complain about what Bush did? It's easy enough to get out of a ditch. Turning back from jumping off a cliff is a little harder.

I heard Pence on WOWO last week.

I found it interesting that he was raving on and on about "my friend Parker Griffith" who switched parties from being a Democrat to a Republican.

A minute later Pence said his only goal in the upcoming election is to elect CONSERVATIVES to the Congress.

Does "his friend" qualify? For Pence it is not about "electing conservatives" it is about being in the majority party.

I will also note that Republicans and Conservatives think the past does not matter when it comes to Bush- only when it applies to Dems.......
