A homeowner expresses a strong opinion

Want something from this house? Well, how about a few of these?

A home invasion suspect was in critical condition this morning after being shot by a homeowner.

Fort Wayne Police were called around 3:15 a.m. to 4730 Reed St., where officers found a man wearing a ski mask on the ground. He had gunshot wounds and a weapon nearby, according to police spokeswoman Raquel Foster.

[. . .]

Detectives believe the man was breaking in to the south-side home when the homeowners woke up, Foster said. One of the homeowners, armed with a gun, opened fire on the alleged burglar near the home's front door, Foster said.

The 4700 block of Reed is just a few blocks from the last house I lived in with my parents before going off to the Army, then doing my own thing. We moved my mother and sister out a few years after my father died when my sister was almost killed in her bedroom by a drive-by shooter. Apparently, the neighborhood hasn't gotten any better. Hooray for the armed and quick-thinking homeowner, but how sad that anyone has to live in fear like that.

Leo:
I don't think of it as living IN fear...more like living WITH fear.
...the RIGHT kind of fear.
...the fear that keeps you VIGILANT.
...the fear that winds up sending someone ELSE to the hospital.

Yeah...the "good" kind of fear.

I "live the adventure" daily, thanks to so many others that never gave damn one about keeping this part of town a vital part of Fort Wayne.

But you knew that already.

Stay safe.
(I know I plan to)
