How many public hearings do we have to have over something that isn't even there to discuss yet?

He suggested not inviting speakers to the Aug. 29 forum, instead organizing it like a public hearing, because he has received phone calls from people just now becoming interested in the issue.

“I think there are still a number of people out there who want to say something,” Smith said.

Council has hosted one public hearing already, on top of four by Allen County Commissioners.

"Fifth-Tuesday forum may be chance to vent," the headline on the story says. We need more venting? That's about all we've had for the past two years. At this late date, are we likely to hear a reason not to talk about government reorganization we haven't heard yet, or a brilliant argument that will move us toward a reorganization committee? Forgive me for not sticking up for the common people, but if there are those who are just now becoming interested in the issue, do we really need to hear from them?

There is a proposal by the city on the table to establish a government restructuring committee. The county can accept it or reject it, and there has been ample opportunity for people to speak out. Let's get on with it.
