Sen

Can you just imagine what would have happened had this really come to pass?

The idea of Oprah Winfrey as a U.S. senator may seem far-fetched to many — among them Rod Blagojevich's one-time chief of staff John Harris.

The former governor, however, was quite serious when he threw out the talk show host's name as a possibility for filling Barack Obama's seat in 2008, according to testimony Monday at Blagojevich's corruption trial.

Sen. Oprah Winfrey? Good lord. She has become famous for being generous with her audiences, always surprising them with gifts. I think one time she even gave everybody atending her show a new car. What a disaster it would have been if she had been allowed to take that attitude to Washington. She might have tried to turn the federal government into a mere handout machine, doling out goodies to voters in an insane spending spree.

Oh, wait.

Well, at least her handouts were probably paid by sponsors.
