My experience is exactly the same, finding a decent barber shop at the very end of the barber's career. Fortunately, my hair has diminished to the point where my wife can just take care of it for me with a set of clippers. Not sure my son will ever experience a real barber shop.

I have the worst of both worlds -- losing hair on the top but still plenty on the sides that needs trimming.

So sad to see all the mom-and-pop places go. But I guess there's no turning back. The eccentric old 'Floyd the barber' types are an endangered species, for sure.
