Opening Arguments

We know what you did

We've heard about Nazi Germany as the model of scary totalitarian states in which children are brainwashed to spy on their parents and inform on them if they do not follow accepted doctrine. Is this the same kind of thing or not?

They're watching you right now.

They counted every beer you drank during last night's Red Sox game.

They see you sneaking out to the garage for a smoke.

They know if you've got a gun, and where you keep it.

They're your kids, and they're the National Security Agency of the Nanny State.

I found this out after my 13-year-old daughter's annual checkup. Her pediatrician grilled her about alcohol and drug abuse.

Not my daughter's boozing. Mine.

And, of course, your kids are coming home from school every day ready to harangue you about secondhand smoke and global warming and U.S. imperialism and multiculturalism and all the other propaganda they have pounded into their heads every day. Who's raising whom?

On the other hand, we applaud kids who call police to report that their parents are dealing drugs. Interesting, yes?

Harangue...good word. Haven't heard that one in ages. Well done, Leo!

And "they" won't know WHERE my guns are hidden (no children...yet).

But those 2 cats of ours are following me around WAY too much lately.
