Opening Arguments

Hey, vegetariiiaaaeeens!

Yeah, go ahead and savor those tasty apple slices -- yeah, I'm talking to you, the one with the Big Mac in his grubby hands -- don't you want to be healthy instead of . . . whoops!

Pre-sliced apples distributed to fast-food and grocery chains across the country are among packaged products being recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria bacteria.

Remember when we'd pick up an actual, pre-sliced apple and bite into it? Naturally in our fast-food culture, we have to have our apples sliced for us? Jeez. McDonald's, in case you haven't been there lately, even puts the cream and sugar in the coffee before giving it to you.

I'll stick with my burger and fries, thank you. Sure, I know mean old bacteria and other bad things can attack me from those foods, too, but, by god, I'll go down with a smile on my lips.

I guess I'm really showimg my age,  I remember when McDonalds actually fried burgers on a flat-top grill and served them on a toasted bun.  I suppose the ones they microwave and serve on a raw bun are OK, but they aren't hamburgers.

Of course, they used to have fresh-cut fries with a little peel on it, friend in animal fat, and soft drinks that contained real sugar.  These days, the frozen fries have no peel at all, and the pop is sweetened with corn syrup.

But Five Guys axrually has food for sale, including real unsweet tea. I ought to not complain.
