A kick in the cat

Considering how the homicide rate has been soaring this year, maybe casual cruelty to an animal isn't important in the grand scheme of things. But I think it's worth noting:

A Fort Wayne man charged with kicking a cat in the head was found guilty Tuesday in Allen Superior Court.

Larry Darnell Knox, 55, of Fort Wayne waived his right to a jury trial and instead pleaded his case before Judge Wendy Davis. She convicted him of a Class D felony, cruelty to an animal; torturing or mutilating a vertebrate animal. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 5.

Knox brought this case of animal cruelty to the attention of the legal system himself by calling Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control to come and get the stray cat that had crept into his home and wouldn’t leave.

Cats are usually pretty smart about where they hang out, so I don't know why this one insisted on staying where he obviously wasn't wanted. And refusing to leave? My two cats try to bust out every time I open the door.

Good for Judge Davis. What made what the guy did even worse was that the officer who responded reported him " laughing intermittently as he explained what happened."
