Hands down, this is stupid

This whole "using Ferguson to push a racial-victims narrative" is now officially completely out of hand.

The St. Louis Rams made a silent statement about the decision by a Ferguson, Mo., grand jury not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old, last August.

The decision has sparked protests around the country, but especially in Ferguson, which is just a few miles from the Rams’ Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis. On Sunday, as they ran onto the field to play the Oakland Raiders, Rams players raised their arms in a “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture.

Oh, puhlease. Anybody who's a certain age (OK, an old fart like me) will remember the Black Power Salute controversy of the 1969 Olympics in Mexico City. When Tommie Smith and John Carlos eaised their fists during the medals ceremony, there was such visceral anger directed at them that they were all but drummed out od athletics. And their own anger was born of a feeling of desperation that there was a coming eacial explosion that would obliterate blacks. Those were raw times with real issues at stake.

This watered-down version is phony and pathetic. Michael Brown, according to the best evidence available, robbed a store and acted really stupid when confronted by a cop. The people who keep perpetutuating this "Don't Shoot" crap either don't accept that. which makes them raective, unthinking fools, or they do but don't care, which makes them untrustworthy knaves.

It has even gotten to Joe Scarborough of MSNBC, the supposed Republican who lets a lot of liberal luooniness seep through his show:

There are so many great people to embrace as heroes in the black community. Deciding that you’re going to embrace a guy that knocked over a convenience store, and then, according to grand jury testimony, acted in ways that would get my children shot on Staten Island or in Queens or in Brooklyn. That’s your hero? That’s the reason that you want to burn down black businesses that small business owners in Ferguson have worked their entire lives for? That’s why you want to block African American commuters with five children going to work in the Bay area and get them fired? Really? This is your mission in life?

Donny, I’m sorry. This Rams thing was the final straw for me. We have sat her quietly and listened to BS being spewed all over this network and all over other networks. I can’t take it anymore

[. . .]

. . . if my child or your child knocked over a convenience store and then went down the middle of the street shouting profanities at a police officer… and then went into the car and started punching the police officer and started grabbing for his gun, he’d probably be shot in the car.

The simple truth. So damned inconvenient.
