For one day each week, the Los Angeles City Council wants residents to go vegetarian.
In a unanimous 12-0 vote, the council approved a resolution Friday endorsing the "meatless Monday" campaign and asking residents to make a personal pledge to ditch meat for one day a week.
The resolution makes L.A. the largest city to sign on to the international "Meatless Mondays" campaign, which aims to reduce meat consumption for health and environmental reasons.
Or maybe it's part of a secret plan by Michelle Obama and Michael Bloomberg (with Antonio Villaraigosa just the front man) to turn the Department of Agriculture over to PETA.
I mean, come on, this Nanny State stuff is getting beyond parody. "International Meatless Mondays"? Give me a break. I do have meatless days at my house occasionally, but strictly as a matter of convenience. I call them "open a can of beans because I'm too lazy to do anything else" nights. Oh, wait. They're Beanie Weenies, with the pieces of frankfurter. That's a meat, isn't it? Well, never mind, then.
