He said he said

The vatican is disputing some quotes atributed to the pope by Eugenio Scalfari, founder of the "left-leaning" newspaper La Republica. I found this litt;e tidbit fascinating:

The Vatican issued a statement noting Scalfari's tradition of having long conversations with public figures without taking notes or taping them, and then reconstructing them from memory. Scalfari, 90, is one of Italy's best known journalists.

Boy just try getting away with that in this country, making stuff up that makes your foes sound bad. Oh, wait . . .
