The peope is from Latin America, birthplace of Marxist liberation theology, and at times he's sounded like he's trying to sneak up on that theology. Now, he seems to be jumping in with both feet:
In an extraordinarily frank document, the Pope lambasts rich countries for “looting” the world and takes aim at bankers and climate sceptics for accelerating its decline.
He warns that the world is facing widespread crop failure, economic ruin, mass migration and the destruction of entire eco-systems.
He calls for a new global political authority tasked with tackling the reduction of pollution and the development of poor countries and regions.
Although he accepts that there may be some natural causes of global warming, the pope lays most of the blame for climate change squarely at the feet of mankind.
And "climate change" has always seemed like just another statist scheme to aggrandize power and redistribute wealth. It seems pretty clear now that this is a worldwide push, not one meant merely for this country.
Environmentlists say they hope the pope's "strident words" will encourage "right-wing science skeptics -- particularly U.S. Christians" to rethink their position. Somehow, I don't think injecting papal stridency into what has already been mostly a religion-based pseudo-scientific apocalypic prophecy is going to convert many skeptics.
