Former fatty Jared Fogel, the guy who lost 245 pounds by eating Subway sandwiches, is going to be at Lincoln Elementary School, 1001 E. Cook Road, tomorrow at 10 a.m. According to a Fort Wayne Community Schools media advisory, Fogel will "visit with students and talk about the importance of healthy living, including exercising and eating right."
The visit is being coordinated by the Asher agency, which will bother some people, since Asher handles advertising for Subway. The fast-food chain has figured out a way to get its promotions into the classroom. But this is part of Fogel's "Tour de Pants" -- a year-long celebration of his 10th anniversary of keeping the weight off:
The Subway poster boy will be going around the country with his former size 60 pants to make personal appearances and help raise $2 million for the Jared Foundation, an organization devoted to the elimination of childhood obesity.
He's got a good message and a good cause. If it helps students make better diet choices, it shouldn't bother us that a few of them get lured into Subway in the process.
