Exhausted by winter

If you see my car parked at a motel tonight, don't bother getting the camera and hoping for something scandalous. I'll be seeking nothing more adventurous than a little warmth.

My furnace went out yesterday, just as the temperature started dropping. Unfortunately, the furnace guy told me, the part it needs won't get here until Thursday. So on the way home yesterday, I detoured to Do It Best to pick up a couple of small space heaters. I spent the night wrapped in a blanket and curled up in front of one of them -- their maximum range is about six feet. I carried the other one around to plug in in whatever room I had to be in. (You can have one in the bathroom as long as you aren't taking a shower.)

This morning, I started the car, then spent the required 15 minutes clearing off all the snow. By the time I got back in the car, it was toasty, and I realized that I actually wasn't cold for the first time in more than 12 hours.

You know what? It turns out that just trying to stay warm is exhausting, so I just may give up tonight and find me a place that has free cable with HBO and a coffee shop attached.

And if I start griping about the heat in July or August, politely remind me how much more I hate winter.
