That pig won't fly

Everybody else in the free world is weighing in on the "lipstick on a pig" flap, so I might as well wade in, too.

1. Of course he meant it as a sly dig at Sarah Palin, as the reaction to it makes clear:

The crowd apparently took the "lipstick" line as a reference to Palin, who described the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull in a single word: "lipstick."

2. But, jeez, get over it. A politician made a crack about another politician. Huffily demanding an apology instead of just laughing the whole thing off makes the McCain camp look like a bunch of wimpy -- hate to say it -- Democrats.

By the way, has anybody actually thought about the saying. Why you would want to put lipstick on a pig, unless . . .? Where I come from, if you saw somebody doing that, you'd think he was doing more than playing wi
