Most people writing about the film career of Patrick Swayze discuss his two most famous roles in "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost." Many delight in his role as the Zen bouncer ("I will break your face, then I will meditate") in "Roadhouse," one of the great bad "B" movies of all time. A few hardy souls even bring up the paranoid Cold War epic "Red Dawn."
But hardly anybody talks about my favorite Swayze movie -- "Next of Kin," the surreal hillbilly vs. mafia movie set in Chicago that so perfectly captures the Appalachian ethos. We likes to play wif snakes, and if'n you mess wih one a ourn, we will hunt you down and revenge him!
This land's mine! I can go out and take a piss on it in the middle of the night if I want to!
Where are family values like that in today's movies, I ask you!
Sadly, the Swayze character in this movie does not crack the list of Top 10 White Trash Heroes of Cinema.
