The Komets, in conjunction with Kroger and Scott's, are asking fans to get ready to bring gently used or new kid's coats, sizes six through 14 please, new mittens, hats and scarves to the next two Komet home games Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov.
It's not been a very good day. Just heard that former Komets equipment manager Steve Wissman is going to have some major surgery early next week, and a good friend George Ogg is very sick and in the hospital. Another very good friend just found out her mother is in stage 4 of cancer.
They could all use some extra prayers if you can spare a few minutes please. Kind of puts a three-game losing streak into perspective a little, at least for me. Thanks.

Tomorrow's column:
In 21 years watching the Komets, I've never seen them be this snakebit getting goals. I've seen some lousy teams, but this shouldn't be one. I watched the game tonight and they looked tired, slow and like they were lacking confidence. They were out-shot 41-23 and in the third period when they trailed by one goal, they only got four shots on goal. Again, the goaltending and defense was fine, but they look lost in the opposing zone. They basically got beat tonight by Missouri's third line which scored both the goals, but no one on the top two lines is doing anything, either.
Al Sims isn't raising the roof yet, but he was not too happy with tonight's performance, a 4-1 loss to Dayton. Despite 45 shots, the Komets could only manage Sean O'Connor's first goal of the season, and that came when the score was already 3-0.
``It's just the same old struggle to score,'' Sims said. ``We made some bad mistakes defensively that cost us a couple of goals.''
Did his team have good chances to score? ``Yes. We had four power plays in the third period and only scored on one of them.''
Today is a special to me in that it is Veterans Day. This day means everything to me as it has a lot of history of past and present and future service members. But today is even more special to me knowing that we have a great community support. I would like to take today and say a BIG THANK YOU to some special people in Fort Wayne. These people are mostly behind the scenes but do more then anyone person is required to do for us.
