Tailing the Komets

My series pick

Six weeks ago, I told Kent Hormann I’d probably pick Wichita to beat the Komets in the finals in five games. Nothing I’ve seen from the Thunder has caused me to change my mind too much about them.

Here's the officials

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today the three referees and five linesmen that will make up the on-ice officials crew for the 2012 CHL Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Finals that begins on Saturday at the INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas when the Thunder hosts the Fort Wayne Komets.

The referees selected for the Finals are Boone Bruggman, Marc-Andre Lavoie and Peter Tarnaris and the linesmen are Kyle DeMaggio, John Grandt, Bill McGoldrick, Shaun Morgan and Cory Piche.

Here's the schedule so far

Game 1: Saturday at Wichita, 8 p.m.

Game 2: Sunday at Wichita, 6 p.m.

Game 3: Thursday at Fort Wayne, 7:30 p.m.

Game 4: Saturday, May 5 at Fort Wayne, 8:15 p.m. (late start because of USF commencement at 2 p.m.)

So far, nobody is talking about what the hold up is on the other three games which should be announced today sometime.

Could be the Komets want at 2-3-2 format, and maybe the Thunder wants a 2-2-1-1-1 format which is what they have posted on their website.

Schedule: Last I heard

Going to start Saturday and Sunday in Wichita. Komets will leave at 8 a.m.

Then they were looking at Thursday, Saturday, Monday in Fort Wayne, but that was all tentative, and I don't know anything yet about Games 6 and 7

One period to win it all!

It's 3-3 heading into the third period, and the Komets lead in shots 26-25. It's been a fantastic game, an amazing amount action. You may think that with six goals the goaltenders are having a bad game, but both have been astonishing. They've both saved it from being about 6-6.

I really don't know if the Komets can win this style of game. It's so different than the way they've been playing the whole year and the entire series. Both teams are playing great and we've just had amazing end-to-end action.

No matter what happens, this game will be remembered for  a long time.

First-period highlights

These are from Vinnie Lopes

Komets need to slow down

They are playing at Missouri's pace and it's costing them. They need to slow down, dump the puck and start pounding on the Mavericks' defensemen. And stay out of the penalty box. Both Mavericks' goals came on the power play. Shots were 10-6 Mavericks and they are flying up the middle of the ice so far.

Bryant Molle is trying to play

He's out for warm-ups to test his injured knee. He looks good so far.

An anonymous fan sent this to me today

I Bleed Orange

I have been a fan for the past 4 years.

I don’t believe that you can be a true fan if all you are looking for is another championship. That is not what it is all about.

The crowd so far

Is only around 5,800 but they are expecting/hoping for a big walk-up. Anything less than 7,000 would be disappointing.

Tonight's referee is...

Boone Bruggman.

Great call by the league. He did a great job in Game 4 of this series and Game 4 of the Rapid City series. Called it straight up. I figured it would be either he or Steve Cruickshank.

Tell us...

What the final score will be and who will score the game-winning goal.
