Komets PR Director Chuck BIn 58 years of IHL play, the league has had an unchanged year of member teams only eight times, with last year being one.  If we had gone unchanged this year, it would have been back-to-back seasons of no change for only the second time in the history of the league (it happened only once, the member teams of the IHL for 66-67 stayed the same for 67-68 and 68-69).

“While we are obviously disappointed by the announcement from Kalamazoo concerning its departure from the International Hockey League, we are certainly confident in the plan of action the league has been building.

“Given the fact there are so many positive things on the horizon for the league regarding expansion, we feel very good about the direction things are headed and the overall strength of the IHL.

The Komets announced Tuesday that Danko Mironovic has become the first player to re-sign for 2009-10. The second-year defenseman made his pro debut last season capturing the IHL Turner Cup championship with the Komets scoring two goals, 11 assists and 65 penalty minutes while appearing in 70 games.

The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that the Kalamazoo Wings have chosen to withdraw from the IHL. The IHL worked to engage Kalamazoo's management team in discussions about many issues, unfortunately those efforts were unsuccessful. Kalamazoo's decision to part ways with the IHL is both disappointing and perplexing to league officials due to the timing of league expansion possibilities.
