Tailing the Komets

Pre-game festivities

Brent Henley has an orange beard, Olivier Legault has an orange mohawk and Kevin Bertram has red hair.

Bob Langdon is the referee.

We'll see if she does it, but a very special person to the Komets is supposedly going to be wearing an orange wig. We'll see.

Muskegon just arrived at the coliseum, about 45 minutes late because of overheating bus issues. It shouldn't affect things too much.

Robin Bouchard won't play tonight and may miss the other two games this weekend because of concussion issues.

One last try

Anybody know where I can find Andy Milne, Gerry Fleury or Mike McKay? I'm trying to put together a Where are they now? list for the next Komets book and those are the only three guys I haven't been able to find who played here at least one season. I've got to have the entire book finished by the end of the playoffs. So far I've found more than 800 former players. The book will be out opening night next season.

Keep this list going

The best things about playoff hockey are....

Overtimes

No shootouts

Whiteouts or Orange outs

Post-series handshakes

Janice Shepler's ``It's time to get loud'' monster sign

6 p.m. Sunday starts

Seeing more FW fans at road games

Driving all night and still going to work in the morning

Reliving fantastic memories

Watching line matchups develop

Defensive shadows like Peter Hankinson

Rumors of what injuries actually are

Wondering if this will be the last time you hear Bob Chase on the Komets (it won't be)

Hot goaltenders

Playoff beards/haircuts

Blocked shots

Playoff previews

There are a couple of stories. The first one is here, and the second one is here. There's a graphic to go with the second story, but you'll have to read the paper to see it. Also, check out the awesome photos. LOL.

Some notes I found

These are under the category there are three kinds of lies: lies, d--- lies and statistics. Mark Twain said it originally. But they are still interesting.

* Entering these playoffs, the Komets have a lot less playoff championship experience than they usually do. Only Al Sims and Guy Dupuis from the 1993 Komets and Colin Chaulk and Kevin Bertram from the 2003 Komets have won pro playoff championships. Brandon Warner was part of Michigan State's 2007 NCAA championship team.

Roster moves

The Komets have moved Olivier Legault to the non-roster spot so they retain his rights, and they have waived Maksim Shirokov. Shirokov will go through the IHL waiver draft at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Komets General Manager David Franke informed the players this morning.

As for Legault, Franke said, ``We will retain his rights for the rest of the year and into the summer and we have explained to him that we still want him to be part of our team next year and he definitely wants to play here again next year. We just explained it was a numbers situation.''

Huge crowd for Sunday

There are still about 1,000 tickets left but they are going quickly if you want to grab some. That also means you might want to arrive a little earlier than normal or you could miss the pregame ceremonies and trophy awards from the league.
