We've started interviewing the politicians for our fall-election endorsement interviews, so blogging will be a little light and/or spotty for the next few weeks. I know, I know, try to contain your grief.

Businesses near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway didn't get quite what they had hoped for:

Fans crowded the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Saturday watching the motorcycles go by at record speeds qualifying for the inaugural Indianapolis MotoGP. They were also hoping to catch a glimpse of the riders and maybe snag an autograph. Although the track was busy most of the day it was not as crowded as some local business owners would have liked.

"Quick, rush me to Parkview!"

"Are you in pain, sir? Feel dizzy?"

"No, Dummy. The first inning is about to start."

It is said that baseball fans will find more than a name change:

City Councilman Glynn Hines flat out says he "does not trust" Mayor Tom Henry to do the right thing in hriring enough African Americans. So, after voting against the fire department merit commission, he changed his mind and voted along with five other council members to override the mayor's veto of forming the commission:

Pssst, guys. Don't know if you've heard, but a lot of the gals are going to be out of the house next Thursday evening, the 18th. They're going to Headwaters Park for the annual WMO -- Woman's Night Out -- for food and drink and shopping and entertainment and all that stuff. The Web site says this:

As you know if you read the attached comments, I let my imagination get the better of me when I did a post yesterday about a local high school that bans any T-shirts with double meanings, including the infamous "Ball U" shirt that so embarrasses Ball State University officials. I saw "one Fort Wayne high school" in the news story, and my brain interpreted that as a Fort Wayne Community Schools school. The school in question is Carroll, which, of course, is a part of Northwest Allen County Schools. Many thanks to all of who who were kind enough to point out the error.

I heard a lot of people talking about this story today, along the lines of, "What else don't we know yet?"

Jene A. Chadwell is accused of stealing axle assemblies, bolts, bearings, brackets, discs, gears, nuts and plates. Chadwell, who didn't return a request for comment Monday placed through a relative, has been charged with receiving stolen property.

A few things: 1) I'm a graduate of Ball State University,  2) I'm a product of Central High School, which also produced Fort Wayne Community Schools Superintendent Wendy Robinson, and 3) Wendy and my younger brother Larry were Central contemporaries, friends even, which means I probably know more about her than she wishes I did.

When one of the two people who introduced the measure is with Allen County Right to Life, how can this be said with a straight face?

Authors of a bill now before the Allen County Commissioners say its purpose is not to just limit abortions . . .

We can debatge whether it is right to make abortions tougher to get, but

Dang. I remember about a dozen years ago writing that the $40 million renovation of South Side High School was an outrageous excess:

 LOS ANGELES (AP) - A decade behind schedule, a $350 million downtown high school finally opened on Wednesday after years of environmental, seismic and legal troubles.
