It was just a sham day

Drat. Somebody forgot to send me the memo on this, so I screwed up and called St. Patrick's Day St. Patrick's Day yesterday:

Faith and begorrah, is nothing sacred?

Some folks are trying to transform the name of Tuesday's holiday from St. Patrick's Day to “Shamrock Day.”

Card shops have banners proclaiming the occasion; the Disney Channel is using the term; and some places in this country have changed the name of their community celebrations of Celtic heritage to the “nonoffending” terminology.

[. . .]

But the organizers of Shamrock Day celebrations, such as the Habitot Children's Museum in California, cite the need for “cultural diversity to our audience without broaching religious boundaries.”

Ah, I see,  "cultural diversity without broaching religious boundaries." I didn't realize it was that important, so forgive me for seeming to make fun of the idea. Ever get in one of those moods where you want to offend everybody?

As Fielding Mellish said in Bananas:

"It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham."

. . . and from this day forward all underwear is to be worn on the outside of the pants and subject to inspection twice per day. Hell, it's gettin' to feel ABnormal to not feel offensive most of the time. I must be approaching the Event Horizon.
